Missouri Gaming Commission Changes "Floating Facilities" Rules

Century Casino Inc. today announced the latest developments for Century Casino Carothersville, Missouri.

Efforts to change Missouri's law, which requires each casino to be made a "floating facility," have been successful. Going forward, the Missouri Gaming Commission will have the ability to approve casino facilities built as long as they contain containers containing at least 2,000 gallons of water underneath the facilities. The change opens up the opportunity for Century Casino Carothersville, the last remaining river-lined casino above Missouri's open water, to move to a non-floating facility.

The company has also purchased land parcels between land the company has already leased and ground-level pavilions that include restaurants, multifunctional spaces, and a passage entrance to the Gangseon Casino. The purchase also comes with an existing small two-story hotel. The land purchase provides strategic options for future casino and hotel development and improved parking access. The company has already begun working with a well-known architecture firm to develop plans for new casino and hotel facilities. The company will be refurbished with the goal of reopening the existing 36-room hotel by early 2022. Currently, there are no other hotels in downtown Carothersville.

The number of available casino licenses in Missouri remains capped at 13, and casino facilities are still required to be located within 1,000 feet of the Mississippi or Missouri rivers. The Company’s two casinos in Missouri, Century Casino Caruthersville and Century Casino Cape Girardeau, operate 1,365 slot machines and 32 table games and generated 43% of the Company’s net operating revenue and 104% of the Company’s Adjusted EBITDA in Q1 2021.
